At the heart of the "Mountains of the Night," land of castles in Couzan, Marcilly, Rochefort, Urfé, among others, and the first bastion of Chief Vres of Italian art of the Renaissance, dominated CHALMAZEL Valley High Lignon whose waters run through the country of the Astree of D'Urfe honored. Built by Arnaud de Marcilly in 1231 at the request of Guy IV Count of Forez, this impregnable fortress resisted the feudal wars and remained intact over the centuries. The return of the campaigns in Italy, the Marquis de Talaru added Renaissance-inspired embellishments on the front and the courtyard of the castle, while maintaining a medieval architecture.
