Hiragiya takes the name from hiragi the name of the holly leaf, hotel trademark throughout the inn and was established in 1818, gaining a trust worthy reputations as one of the most beloved Japan s inns or ryokan. During the time it has represented a special place for the imperial family, famous writers, politicians and artists. The Nobel Prize winning novelist Yasunari Kabawata described the inn as `´sense of tranquility that belonged to the old Japan´`.Rooms have been designed taking in consideration the modern concepts and the traditional architectural Japanese style with its own special motif. Some of the 28 rooms feature lacquered bathrooms, other in marble and other in tile. Painting folding screens are done in gold leaf, others have ink paintings on handmade paper in Zen style. Wooden beans, reed ceilings are to be found in all the rooms. All have tatami mats, papered shoji windows and sliding fusuma doors, the best description of traditional Japanese style.
