The Pousada was once give the grade of chateau but now it has changed to that of a more average Pousada. The service by the staff however is very good. Rooms are spacious with some silk embroidery panels. A number of rooms also have verandas with very commanding views. Serves local dishes, such as carneiro a moda de forno de algodres (lamb in red wine), bacalhau a beira alta (salted cod fish), bifes de presunto a moda da beira (ham), lingua de vitela a beira (casseroled veal). The restaurant also offers good flambe dishes. This Pousada also has a very accomplished pastry chef. The wines form nearby pinhel are very good and should be sampled. Medium sized lobby.
Almeida located on a fortress town and has been passed from the hands of the Portuguese, French and Spanish many times during its long history. The delightfully named Pousada 'Lady of the Snows', offers the visitor a chance to glimpse a bit of history in the comfort of a modern establishment opened in 1987.
