The ?Alcazar de Colon? was built in 1510 by Diego Columbus, the son of explorer Christopher Columbus. In 1992, The Villa was purchased by the famous Italian fashion designer, Gianni Versace. He spent $33 million dollars on the renovation, transforming the building into a lavish private 23,000 square foot home with 10 bedrooms, 11 bathrooms and an open-air central courtyard. For the next few years, Versace and his partner Antonio D?Amico hosted lavish parties and fashion shows at the estate. After Versace?s death, The Villa became a private club and since 2009 The Villa has operated as a luxury boutique hotel, restaurant and event space.
