The pousada acquired its name from a young man by the name of Barao Forrester (1809-1862), who also plays an important part in the history of port. He was a cartographer and artist and was a purist in his desire to keep port as a wine unfortified by brandy. In the Pousada there is a drawing room, a central dining room with mirrored doors, a card room on the lower garden level as well as a bar with a wonderful collection of port. 08/08 mp Pastel colours cover the walls giving the rooms a peaceful feeling. Medium sized lobby area with comfortable seating. White facade with traditional balconies overlooking the swimming-pool surrounded by grass gardens. The food and service is excellent.Specialties are bacalhau and pickled peixinhnos. Alijo, the town, produces a good and fruity moscatel wine which is not widely known and is most fervently recommended.
