The Refinery Hotel stands in the heart of the garment district, blocks from Bryant Park, the theater district, Times Square, and the Empire State Building. The chic decor and artistic ambience are shot through with industrial accents that hark to the buildings early-19th century milliners and hat factories. It is the opulent reincarnation of the Colony Arcade Building. Constructed in 1912, its ornate, neo-gothic facade became the vision that welcomed the workday of the generations milliners. These skilled artists were working at the peak of New York innovation, as showrooms, importers, and manufacturers thrived in this cultural and media center. The Refinery Hotel has carefully stripped, redefined and preserved the buildings industrial innards. Gothic arched entries and windows surrounded by sculptural quatrefoils, shields and eagles still greet the hustling neighborhood and the Hotels esteemed Guests. Materials from original water tanks and inner fixtures have been reworked into ceilings and furniture. Tools of the millinery trade have been worked into installations and interior detailing.
